This ten by eight foot piece is rotated clockwise from north to allow the bounding seas to form a better frame, and to emulate in their forms an Arabic-like script. The elevation data are from a Shuttle radar dataset which has been perturbed by sandstorms, giving an occasional scabby appearance to some of the dune systems. The broad extent of high ranges in Iranian and Kurdish territory contrasts with the long gentle slopes and fans of Arabia. Lavender areas are below sea level.
